Get over here, Mortal Kombat fans! WePlay Esports is hosting the world’s hottest new Mortal Kombat 11 tournament later this week. Starting on Thursday, December 10th, two groups of professional MK 11 players will compete in WePlay Dragon Temple, which slumbers atop a $60,000 dollar hoard for the winners.
Taking place in the WePlay Esports Arena Kyiv – the first event to be held at the brand-new venue, the tournament will have two stages. The Group Stage will split the teams into two round-robin groups, where players must win two of out three sets to progress. The top four contestants from each group will then move on to the Playoffs, a double-elimination bracket where they must win the best of five sets.
WePlay Dragon Temple will see the Mortal Kombat 11 fighting scene elite duking it out for victory. It’ll play host to both veteran fighting-game players like Tekken Master and the aptly named ForeverKing, as well as newer entrants to the scene such as Infinitii and Dubasik. But WePlay Dragon Temple is more than just a competition. Spectacle and drama have always been central to WePlay Esports' events, from creating a cyberpunk city on-stage for the Dota 2 WePlay! WePlay Dragon Temple is no different. Alongside the players, the show will bring in a wide range of talent to host, discuss, and cover the event live. Proceedings will be overseen by analyst and former professional esports player Kyle, while streamers and casters like Mr Aquaman and the twins Ketchup and Mustard will provide commentary of matches. When hip-hop icon and self-professed Mortal Kombat fan Snoop Dogg himself is geared up to watch, it’s going to be a show you don’t want to miss.

As well as running a thrilling event, WePlay Esports is also keen to ensure it is a safe one. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, WePlay Esports has hosted multiple events, including the WeSave! Charity Play marathon, raising funds to aid the battle against the pandemic, alongside two three-week long Dota 2 leagues, and shorter tournaments in CS:GO and Valorant. For some of these events, the talents involved stayed with WePlay Esports for a prolonged period of time.
For Dragon Temple, WePlay Esports is working based on input from medical professionals and practices taken from previous events to ensure a safe environment for everyone involved. “Only the essential staff will be working in WePlay Esports Arena Kyiv during the event, and it will not be open to the audience,” says Maksym Bilonogov, Chief Visionary Officer and General Producer at WePlay. “Any visitors such as business partners or press representatives will be allowed into the venue only with a negative COVID-19 test result.”
