1. Scan Performance| Ryzen 7 7700X | RTX 4070 Super | 16 GB DDR5-5200 | 1 TB SSD | £1,429.99 at Scan
The 7700X is a very speedy, if slightly hot running CPU, and here it gets a decent dose of DDR5 and an RTX 4070 Super to make friends with. That makes it an excellent upper mid-range machine at a good price with plenty of upgradeability, although I'd start off with sticking an extra 16 GB of RAM in when you get the chance.

2. MSI Katana 15 | RTX 4070 | Core i7 13620H | 15.6-inch | 1080p | 144 Hz | 16 GB DDR5 | 1 TB SSD | $1,399£1,099.99 at Overclockers (save £300)

2. MSI Katana 15 | RTX 4070 | Core i7 13620H | 15.6-inch | 1080p | 144 Hz | 16 GB DDR5 | 1 TB SSD | $1,399 £1,099.99 at Overclockers (save £300)
With a substantial ten-core 16-thread Intel CPU sitting at its heart, this Katana certainly has some processing grunt. The RTX 4070 here is only the 105 W TGP version, but that should still have no problem pushing pixels to that 1080p screen. It might not be a top-spec machine, but it's very difficult to argue with the performance here at this price.

3. MSI RTX 4070 Ventus 2X E1 OC | 12 GB GDDR6 | 5,888 shaders | 2,490 MHz boost |£539.99£479.99 at Overclockers (save £60

The RTX 4070 has been an absolute stalwart of this generation of GPUs, delivering superb mid-range performance for something approaching reasonable money. At this price it makes a great upgrade option for those that have held out for good discounts on this generation of graphics cards, and thanks to DLSS, it should keep on kicking for quite some time yet.

4. Gainward RTX 4080 Super | 16 GB GDDR6X | 10,240 shaders | 2,580 MHz boost | £989.99£889.99 at Overclockers (save £100)

4. Gainward RTX 4080 Super | 16 GB GDDR6X | 10,240 shaders | 2,580 MHz boost | £989.99 £889.99 at Overclockers (save £100)
The RTX 4080 Super handily supersedes the original RTX 4080, as it's a little bit faster and has a lower MSRP. Here at £890, it makes a whole lot of sense, even if that's still a lot of money to be spending on one component. Still, it can only really be beaten by the RTX 4090, and good luck finding one of those for anything under £1,500.

You can't beat a high-refresh 34-inch ultrawide gaming panel in terms of bang for buck and ASRock gives you that particular bang for less buck than ever. As we found in our review, this 1ms 165Hz VA panel has no major weaknesses and makes for a really nice overall package for the money.

Lexar has put together a superb SSD in the NM790, and the best part is that it's surprisingly cheap. Thanks to high-layer NAND and a low-power controller, you can get tons of storage here on an energy-efficient and great-performing drive for not much cash and often for much less cash than the competition. Read our Lexar NM790 (4 TB) review for more.

The 7700X is something of a stalwart of the Zen 4 generation, offering beefy eight core, 16 thread performance for an often-discounted price. So much so, in fact, that it's our pick for the best mid-range gaming CPU. Now it's just above the £250 mark, it makes even more sense for those looking to build an AM5 machine for less.

8. Gigabyte M28U | 28-inch | 4K | 144Hz | IPS | £459 £369.98 at Amazon (save £89.02)
The combination of 4K and 144Hz is normally a wallet-wincing affair. But this Gigabyte gets you there for under £400. Hardly throw-away money, but as a long-term investment, this would be a very nice tool for some high-precision gaming.

This 16-inch lappy is a proper bargain at this price, as there's really not a lot wrong with it for just over £1,000. You get an eight core, 16-thread processor, 16 GB of RAM, a 165 Hz 1200p screen and a proper 1 TB SSD, and let's not forget that RTX 4060. It might not be the most powerful of GPUs, but it's a darn sight better than the RTX 4050 you find in most machines at this price, and with DLSS 3 it can deliver decent gaming performance.

10. ASRock RX 7900 XTX | 24 GB GDDR6 | 6,144 shaders | 2,615MHz boost | £998.99 £749.99 at Overclockers (save £249)

AMD's mighty RX 7900 XTX is now easy to find well under its original MSRP and it's a seriously powerful graphics card. While it's not as potent in ray tracing and AI/machine learning as Nvidia's equivalent cards, it handles standard rendering extremely well and you're getting more VRAM than you could ever want.

We're big fans of this little budget gaming laptop, and our Jacob loved its great gaming performance (check out our review). When it comes to the hardware running under the bonnet, this 17-inch MSI Vector certainly has the goods, what with that Intel Core i9 processor and an RTX 4080 making a very tempting package indeed. Bit of a shame about the 1200p display and 16GB of RAM, but at least the screen's a good 'un with a 144Hz refresh rate and nice and bright panel. There's a huge amount of performance here in quite a slim and svelte package, making this machine a lot of power for just under £1,800.

Yes, this six-core, 12-thread CPU is now two generations old but for the money, you really can't complain. Well, a bit more RAM would have been nice, but you're not going to get many gaming PCs with an RTX 4060 and a 12th Gen i5 for less than £800. The PSU is only rated to 500W, however, so if you're planning on using this as a base to upgrade in the future, you might need a better supply unit for a top-end GPU.

Scan gaming PC | Ryzen 5 5500 | RTX 4060 Ti | 16 GB DDR4-3600 | 1 TB SSD | £879.98 £849.98 at Scan (save £30)
RTX 4060 Ti builds can hit the sweet spot of entry-level price and mid-range performance, depending on the game in question, and this is certainly the case with this build from Scan. The CPU is a couple of generations old and you only get 16 GB of DDR4 RAM, but for well shy of £900 you can't go wrong with this rig, provided 1080p or 1440p gaming is your main focus, and not AAA 4K gaming or heavy productivity.

The six-core, 12-thread CPU may be last-gen, and not the fastest one that AMD ever made, but this is still a very good deal for a powerful RTX 4070 machine. It sports dual channel DDR4-3600, which is rare to see in a simple pre-built, and you get a 1 TB SSD to load up with games.

This Cyberpower Luxe comes equipped with the fantastic Core i9 12900KF, in combination with an RTX 4080 Super that can churn through frames in any game. You also get a very fancy corner window case to show off those RGB-lit fans, making this PC a stunning looker with a serious gaming grunt to match.

3XS Gamer RTX | Core i7 14700K | RTX 4090 | 32 GB DDR5-5600 | 2 TB PCIe 4.0 SSD | £2,999.99 at Scan
You're probably thinking that this isn't much of a good deal but when RTX 4090 cards cost £2,000 on average, it looks a whole lot better. You're getting a very solid gaming CPU, the best gaming GPU, lots of speedy dual-channel RAM, and plenty of NVMe storage. This is about as fast a gaming machine as you can get your hands on, and even at £3,000, this is still a monster of a PC at a good price.

The RX 6600 is a quality 1080p GPU and great value for money if you can score it cheap enough. You're getting a budget graphics card that delivers high frame rates in the latest games at top 1080p graphics presets. At least AMD and Intel are bringing GPU pricing down.

As the budget baby of the RDNA 3 family, the RX 7600 faces a lot of competition. Not just from Intel and Nvidia, but from AMD's previous generation of cards too. At this price, though, it's a lot cheaper than the RX 6700 XT and in some games, it performs nearly as well. Dare I say that it's a little bit dull?

While the RTX 4060 isn't exactly one of our favourite graphics cards of all time, it's still capable of delivering good 1080p and 1440p performance thanks to DLSS 3. This little model has a twin-fan cooler and should slot into almost any modern system with no fuss at all. At this price, as budget GPUs go, it's a bit of a steal.

AMD rules the graphics card market's mainstream and budget ends, and the RX 6750 XT is the best GPU at this price point. The RTX 3060 Ti is more expensive and slightly slower in many games. Its popularity means supply is somewhat limited so you might need to wait until it's back in stock.

The RTX 4060 Ti might not have blown our socks off when it first arrived, but it's a great budget gaming GPU at this price with some chunky performance for the money. While there is a 16 GB variant available, 8 GB here should do you just fine, despite the fuss that was created around its launch.

The RTX 4070 Super still feels like it's only been out for five minutes, but here it is with a particularly decent discount. We found it was between 10% to 18% faster than the OG RTX 4070, although whether that's worth the price difference compared to the deal above is something for you to decide for yourself. Still, it's a fantastic mid-range gaming card.

Seeing a bunch of RX 7900 XTs selling for well less than the original MSRP is a welcome sight, and while they might get overshadowed by some of Nvidia's greatest, they deliver a huge amount of performance. What we like about the XFX with its triple-fan array in particular is that it should run quieter than your average RX 7900 XT. We all could do with a little less noise from our PC.

While it's not as potent in ray tracing and AI/machine learning as Nvidia's equivalent cards, it handles standard rendering extremely well and you're getting more VRAM than you could ever want.

Gainward RTX 4080 Super | 16 GB GDDR6X | 10,240 shaders | 2,580 MHz boost | £989.99 £899.99 at Overclockers (save £90)

RTX 4090 pricing is still silly money, even with this sizeable discount. That said, the RTX 4090 was way up over £2,000 for a time. Now it's back down to something slightly less bonkers. At least it's still by far the fastest graphics card on the planet. Or off it, for that matter.

Cooler Master GM238-FFS | 24-inch | 1080p | 144Hz | IPS | £144.95 £119.99 at Overclockers (save £24.96)
It's not big, and it certainly isn't from a name we normally associate with gaming monitors, but if space is at a premium and you just want a good, little 1080p display for your desk, this 24-incher has a lot going for it. For a start, it's a fast IPS panel, so you get the good colours and a 0.5ms response time, and it will deliver a 144Hz refresh rate, too.

ASRock Phantom PG27FF1A | 27-inch | 1080p | IPS | 165Hz | £119.99 at Scan (save £51)
It's pretty wild what you can get these days for a relatively small sum of money. This is a 27-inch monitor for roughly the same price as some smaller 24-inch panels, and it still rocks an IPS display, 1ms response time, and a 165Hz refresh rate. Fantastic for gaming on a budget.

Besides this monitor's significant bezels, there's a lot to like here. It's a bit old fashioned looking, but all the important specs are here: 1440p, 165 Hz, FreeSync compatible. It's in a sweet spot for gaming and it's made by a manufacturer we trust with budget screens.

The combination of 4K and 144Hz is normally a wallet-wincing affair. But this Gigabyte gets you there for a whisker under £400. Hardly throw-away money, but as a long-term investment, this would be a very nice tool for some high-precision gaming.

Crucial BX500 | 500 GB | 2.5" | SATA 6 Gb/s | 550 MB/s read | 500 MB/s write | £26.99 at Scan
For just storing documents, this small SATA SSD is a lot faster than a traditional HDD and Crucial has an excellent reputation for reliability and quality. You're still better off getting an NVMe M.2 SSD for games and your operating system, though.

Price check: Amazon £27.96

Lexar NM790 | 1 TB | NVMe | PCIe 4.0 | 7,400 MB/s read | 6,500 MB/s write | £67.99 at Amazon
You'll only find a few 1 TB SSDs going cheaper than this Lexar drive, and none are as good value. We really liked what this drive had to offer in our review, delivering performance right at the top end of what PCIe 4.0 is capable of, all for a low price.

Price check: Overclockers £69.95

Crucial MX500 | 1 TB | 2.5" | SATA 6 Gb/s | 560 MB/s read | 510 MB/s write | £75.17 £72 at Amazon (save £3.17)
If you don't have enough M.2 NVMe slots on your motherboard for more storage, don't worry; you can still install an SSD via a SATA port. The Crucial MX500 is pretty much the best one out there, as nothing else offers the same blend of performance and value for money as the MX500. It's also available in 2 TB and 4 TB sizes, with the prices scaling on par with the storage capacity, though it is much slower than an NVMe drive.

Lexar NM790 | 2 TB | PCIe 4.0 | 7,400 MB/s read | 6,500 MB/s write |£114.47 at Amazon

Lexar NM790 | 2 TB | PCIe 4.0 | 7,400 MB/s read | 6,500 MB/s write | £114.47 at Amazon

Silicon Power XS70 | 2 TB | NVMe | PCIe 4.0 | 7,300 MB/s read | 6,800 MB/s write | £127.99 at Amazon
Prices for the XS70 are some of the most variable I've seen for an SSD, so it's perhaps worth waiting to see if the price dips again before picking one up. It packs rather a large bang for your buck with its fast read and write times, at least. While the software side of things may be a little lacking, we were impressed with this drive's overall performance and value proposition.

WD Black SN850X | 2 TB | NVMe | PCIe 4.0 | 7,300 MB/s read | 6,300 MB/s write | £371.74 £135 at Amazon (save £236.74)

This is one of our favourite SSD for gaming right now. Unlike the cheaper SN770, the SN850X encapsulates the best PCIe 4.0 offers in terms of performance (check out our review). That makes it a great fit for a boot drive with space to spare for your game library, and at this price, we're happy to pay the premium for its higher speed.

Team Group QX | 4 TB | 2.5" | SATA III 6 Gb/s | 560 MB/s read | 510 MB/s write | £205.99 at Amazon
It's a fair chunk of cash for a slow SSD but if you're looking for lots of storage and don't need a blazing NVMe drive, then this is the cheapest way of putting a 4 TB SSD in your gaming PC. Just don't expect it to sustain full speed under heavy workloads and you'll be fine.

External drives

Crucial X10 Pro | 2 TB | USB 3.2 Gen2x2 | Up to 2,100 MB/s read | Up to 2,000 MB/s write | £229.99 £161.99 at Scan (save £68)

If you need a small external SSD but don't want to sacrifice capacity or performance, then Crucial's X10 Pro is a great choice. It's the same size as the X6 model but has double the read/write performance, though you will need to plug it into a 20 Gbps USB port to reach full speed.

Okay, so nobody will be paying the full price for this excellent gaming CPU, but if you're still using an older 2nd or 3rd Gen Ryzen, then this is a fantastic upgrade for very little money.

Intel Core i5 13600K | 14 cores, 20 threads | 5.1 GHz max boost | 24 MB L3 cache | 125 W TDP | £243.97 £226.49 at Amazon (save £17.48)

If you read our full review of the Core i5 13600K, you'll see why we rate it so highly. It's almost as fast as Core i9 12900K in gaming and multi-threaded applications but doesn't use anywhere near the same amount of power to do so. Still, it gets a bit toasty, so make sure you use a good CPU cooler.

The 7700X is something of a stalwart of the Zen 4 generation, offering beefy eight core, 16 thread performance for an often-discounted price. So much so, in fact, that it's our pick for the best mid-range gaming CPU. Now it's skirting the £280 mark, it makes even more sense for those looking to build an AM5 machine for less.

AMD Ryzen 9 7900 | 12 cores | 24 threads | 5.4 GHz boost | 32 MB L3 cache |AM5 socket | £519.99 £323.97 at Amazon (save £196.02)

The underrated star of AMD's Zen 4 lineup, the Ryzen 9 7900 is a fantastic all-round gaming and productivity processor. With a TDP of just 65 W, it's also incredibly easy to keep cool.

Basic doesn't have to mean bad, boring, or bland. Logitech's G203 Lightsync is very much a basic wired gaming mouse but it's pretty darn good and you even get a bit of nifty RGB lighting. We've seen it slightly cheaper before, but for a mere £25 you really can't go wrong.

Razer Huntsman Elite | Wired| Full-size | Purple opto-mechnical switches | Chroma RGB | £199.99 £109.99 at Amazon (save £90)
The Huntsman Elite is a proper full-size keyboard with a lot to offer, as we found in our glowing review. We found the purple clicky switches to be an absolute delight, and the media controls to be truly excellent. The keycaps aren't all that, but otherwise this is a superb premium keyboard from a manufacturer that knows a thing or two about the clicky stuff.

We loved the G915 when we reviewed it back in 2020, but it was a pretty pricey proposition, and that held the rating back a touch. This is much more like it when it comes to pricing, and the G915 doesn't look to have aged a day. It's still got great battery life, not a hint of lag, and some genuinely excellent switches.

Razer BlackShark V2 X | 50 mm drivers | 12-28,000 Hz | Closed-back | Wired | £59.99 £39.99 at Amazon (save £20)
You could be forgiven for thinking the more basic, wired Blackshark headset might lose out a little to the more expensive wireless models, but all the core tenets are here. It's got great sounding drivers, a robust and clear microphone, and it costs less than £50. Job done, I reckon.

HyperX Cloud Alpha| 50 mm drivers | 13-27,000 Hz | Closed-back | Wired | £89.99 £47.49 at Amazon (save £42.50)
HyperX make some wonderful gaming headsets, and this wired model is no exception. It's got some chunky 50 mm drivers, extremely comfortable ear cups, and a detachable mic. That red and black aesthetic won't suit everybody, but you'll be hearing and feeling this headset more than viewing it, and it's really got it where it counts.

The BlackShark V2 Pro is immensely comfortable, sounds excellent thanks to its TriForce drivers, and has a rock solid wireless connection. Oh, and the microphone's nice and clear, and the battery life is improved over the older model. That makes it a genuinely great headset, here for a very reasonable price.

When will Amazon's October Prime Day 2024 event end?

Amazon's 2024 October Prime Day event started on Tuesday October 8 and ends today, Wednesday October 9 (23:59 BST) this year. Some deals will likely continue for a while afterwards though, although we can't guarantee which ones. Still, we'll be updating this page after the event as well to make sure you can still see what's on offer and what's not.

Remember, it's not just Amazon that'll be dropping its prices. Plenty of UK retailers are following suit, and we'll be collecting all the very best we find right here. It's tempting to think that the US will get the bulk of the deals, but if you're a canny sort you can still find plenty of UK bargains, too.
