Welcome to Eldraine—a storybook land of castles and cauldrons, of chivalrous knights and trickster faeries. But like the devious creatures and beguiling magic that lurk among the shadows, this world is not all that it seems. Join the five courts of the Realm on an epic adventure for honor and glory, or venture a darker path into the mysterious Wilds. Which path will you choose?
Once upon a time there lived a hideous beast. So gruesome was the creature that he stayed in the safe solitude of his castle, far, far away from the cruel eyes of the world.
One evening, a beautiful girl pushed open the heavy door of the castle and wandered in nervously.
The Beast watched her from the shadows. He’d never seen anything quite so exquisite.
‘You there,’ he barked, his huge, fanged face hidden from view. ‘What business have you here?’
The girl was startled. ‘Sorry sir. My name is Grace. I was thrown from my horse. May I come in and warm myself?’
The beast snarled in confusion. Surely she’d heard stories about me, he thought. Yet she chooses not to run.
‘Why do you hide?’ asked Grace
‘You know why?’ said the Beast sadly.
‘Come out so I can see you. Please?’
Slowly, the Beast edged out into the candlelight and revealed his yellow fangs, blood-shot eyes, and matted hair that hung around him like limp fog.
But Grace didn’t recoil in horror. Instead, she stared lovingly into his eyes. The Beast’s heart stirred with feelings he’d long thought were dead.
For three days, Grace stayed at the castle. They talked, laughed and walked the grounds, hand in hand. Love had found them both.
Yet on the fourth day, it was clear something was bothering the Beast.
‘You seem troubled,’ said Grace, grasping a finger on his huge hand. ‘What is it, my sweet?’
The Beast shifted awkwardly in his chair. ‘It’s just…’
‘What my love?’ said Grace.
‘Well, you rearranged all my furniture. And made me eat vegetarian food. And you keep bringing me roses. I hate roses. Oh yes, and you have a really weird laugh. I just think that, perhaps, we should take a break.’
‘You’re dumping me?’ asked Grace with wide-eyed disbelief. ‘You’re… dumping… ME?’
The Beast nodded weakly.
Grace stormed out of the castle - and out of the Beast’s life forever. As he watched her stride back through the forest, the Beast let out a long sigh, before retiring back into the shadows to put his furniture back just the way he liked it.
And he lived very happily ever after.
