ALDI probably isn’t the first company that springs to mind when you think “high-end gaming PC”, but as it happens, the supermarket giant is now selling a AU$1,999 machine, built by Medion. It’s available at Australian ALDI stores from today — November 2nd, 2016 — while stocks last.
What's in the box?
The heart of any good gaming PC is the GPU, and the P5370 E packs an impressive Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070. That’s a higher end video card which is more than capable of satisfying even hard-core gamers. Medion’s paired that graphics card with a powerful quad-core Intel Core i7-6700 CPU, which can boost up to 4GHz, and rounded out those specs with 16GB of DDR4 RAM, a 256GB M.2 SSD for fast storage, and Windows 10 Home. Handily, the machine also has a large 2TB mechanical hard drive for your other files, as well as a hot-swap bay on the front for future upgrades. Medion hasn’t skimped on the connectivity front either, with fast 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Gigabit Ethernet, a bevy of USB 3.0 ports and even a card reader. All the tech is squeezed into a compact little case, with a stand out carbon fibre look front panel. The machine also includes a keyboard and mouse, so it’s ready to go right out of the box — all you need to do is add a monitor.
Game time
It’s speedy enough to play modern games like Grand Theft Auto V and The Division with all the bells and whistles. The P5370 E can maintain high frame rates in those and other recent titles at 1080p — even with the detailed levels set to Ultra. It’s also got enough grunt under the hood to play games at higher resolutions, such as 1440p and 4K, for those lucky enough to have a matching monitor. The machine is also virtual reality ready, and scores a 10.8 (Very High) on Steam’s VR benchmark.
Value for money
Compare the Medion PC to other gaming computers for sale at a similar price, and you’ll find its specs often better the competition by a significant margin. That’s pretty impressive for any computer, let alone one that can be picked up alongside your groceries! Even better, it’s backed by a great 2-year warranty, for total peace of mind.
