If you have already started down the road of human history, soon you’ll need to guide your Civilization through its tricky adolescent period. Lucky for you, we’ve put together a few tips for grappling with Civilization VI’s mid-game.
Determine your victory-type
At this point in the game, you should have a few cities to call your own and a basic complement of Science and Civics research. Now it’s time to start thinking about how you’re actually going to win the game. There are four main victory conditions – Science, Culture, Domination (aka Military) and Religion. If you haven’t been doing so already, it’s time to focus specifically on one of these goals. If you want to win through Science, for example, you need to start specialising your cities so that they accrue science points. If you fancy a military victory, it’s time to focus your research on new military unit types and defensive structures and get building that army.
Choose a government to suit your victory condition.
In Civilization VI, your government can be customised with different policies. Once you hit the Renaissance period, you really want to concentrate on one type of government that will help define and support your chosen Victory Goal. The Monarchy Government type, for example, is ideal for players pursuing a military victory due to its benefits to housing and population, whereas the Theocracy government type gives discounts on Faith-based purchases, making it useful for Religion directed victories.
Secure your borders
Even if you aren’t pursuing a Domination victory, you should at least invest in your military’s defensive capabilities. The Renaissance period offers a couple of useful technologies in this regard. Siege Tactics lets you increase your cities’ defensive with surrounding forts and bigger walls, while Military Science and Ballistics will help you remove any other Civilizations who encroach on your borders.
