Assassin's Creed Shadows
After being known as "Codename Red" since its initial announcement in 2022, Assassin's Creed Shadows has finally been revealed with a proper title and a release date. The newest installment to the stealth action-adventure series whisks us to feudal Japan, a setting that Assassin's Creed fans have been hoping to see the series tackle for years, and will again have two protagonists to choose from.
This will be the fourteenth mainline Assassin's Creed game, and like Mirage in 2023, is drawing on the series' stealth roots. Here are all the crucial details you need to know about Assassin's Creed Shadows so you can get excited for the next stealth adventure.
- Release date: February 14, 2025
- Setting: Sengoku period Japan
- Characters: Shinobi Naoe and Samurai Yasuke
When is the Assassin's Creed Shadows release date?
The Assassin's Creed Shadows release date is February 14, 2025. It was previously scheduled for November 15, 2024 but was delayed in September. "Learnings from the Star Wars Outlaws release led us to provide additional time to further polish the title," Ubisoft said.
When the game was known under "Codename Red" Ubisoft announced that all Assassin's Creed games going forward will launch on PC and current-gen consoles, so we can expect the game to roll out on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5.
Check out the Assassin's Creed Shadows reveal trailer
The Assassin's Creed Shadows trailer is entirely cinematic and introduces the two new protagonists: Naoe, and Yasuke, and the setting in Sengoku era Japan. On the official website for Assassin's Creed Shadows, it's confirmed that you'll be able to choose between both characters who will each have their own playstyles in missions.
Naoe and Yasuke also fight in different styles based on their shinobi and samurai training. Naoe initially seems to take more of a stealthy approach, lurking in the shadows and snuffing light sources to remain hidden before attacking, whereas Yasuke takes a more straightforward approach and isn't afraid to storm into battle. We haven't seen any actual gameplay yet, but future trailers will likely show us how those stealth and combat systems work in detail.
