Best Black Friday PC gaming deals in Australia for 2024: The deals are starting to trickle in

Black Friday deals

Black Friday is increasingly overtaking Boxing Day when it comes to massive deals events in Australia. It makes sense: Black Friday kicks off in late November (officially, anyway) meaning it's a decent way to pick up Christmas gifts at a discount. It's also pretty good for picking up PC gear, which is why this page exists. For years we've covering the best PC gaming deals during Black Friday, and we'll be doing it again in 2024.

Whether you're looking for a loved one or to treat yourself, we'll be heavily curating the deals on this page during Black Friday and the weeks leading up to it. The official date for Black Friday is November 29 (that's a Friday, naturally), but I've been covering Black Friday in Australia for five years now, and the deals tend to start emerging by late October.

Not to mention Cyber Monday, which lands on December 2 this year. That date hasn't tended to throw up any amazing new deals in the PC gaming arena, but we'll be keeping an eye out nevertheless.

Here at PC Gamer we spend our working week testing the latest products to see if they're worthy of our PC gaming setups. And the ones we think worthwhile, we tell you about. That's why we do it: You shouldn't have to waste a cash on poorly-made products.

And, at a time with an increased focus on the cost of living across the world, it makes sense to save any large purchase for an event such as that around Black Friday, where every retailer in every corner of the globe will be cutting prices to tempt you into spending your money with them. Whether you're desperate for an air fryer, want to upgrade your PC setup, or go all-in on a whole new machine, the Black Friday sales event is a great time to bag a bargain.

There are simply too many deals on the internet nowadays to sift through them yourself, that's our job. But don't worry, we're not going to start peddling air fryers, or mattresses, or anything that doesn't have anything to do with PC gaming. That's what we know, and we're making sure to channel our years of expertise into making sure you know what the best deals are and don't have to go trawling though pages of not-actually-deals on Amazon, eBay, Mwave or elsewhere.

Officeworks doesn't show a discount, but it's 38% off RRP, cheaper than the next best price.

Well under AU$300 for a QHD monitor of this size is well worth consideration, especially if you're after a second screen that doesn't skimp in the size department. This one is part of MWave's current free shipping deal, so the price you see is what you pay.

Want a wider version? The G5 34 inch UWQHD model is also discounted at the moment, from AU$589 to AU$399. If you'd prefer the 16:9 27 inch model, that's down from AU$369 to AU$209.

This is a solid and dependable 4K monitor well worth investigation at this price.

It may be difficult to stifle a laugh at how ridiculous this thing is to look at, but those concerns will likely fade away once you're gaming in front of this beast. It pulls out all stops, with a 240Hz refresh rate with a 0.03ms response time, which is going to verge noticeable on this ultrawide DQHD display. Look: it still ain't cheap, but if you want this much screen real estate and don't want to compromise on quality, now may be the time to bite on this.

Meta Quest 3 (512GB) + Batman: Arkham Shadow: was AU$1,049.99 now AU$799.99 at Amazon AU

Save AU$250

The Meta Quest 3 tops our list of the best VR headset, and this bundle deal is exceptionally good: some competitors are selling this 512GB model for AU$100 more without Batman: Arkham Shadow bundled in. This third iteration of Zuck's VR headset vastly improves over its predecessor (which mind you, is our second favourite headset—Valve can you fix this please?).

Early Black Friday 2024 Steam Deck accessory deals in Australia

JSAUX Docking Station for Steam Deck OLED
JSAUX Docking Station for Steam Deck OLED: was AU$49.99 now AU$42.49 at Amazon AU

Save AU$7.50

With Steam Deck launching in Australia this month, now's the time to start hunting for deals on all-important Steam Deck accessories. Among the most attractive peripherals is a dock, all the better to plug the handheld into a monitor or TV, and this one is a more entry level version of our favourite Steam Deck dock. Ports include HDMI 2.0, which supports 4K at 60Hz, a 100Mbps ethernet port, two USB-A 2.0 ports and a USB-C with charging passthrough. Probably all you'll need to start with.

Early Black Friday 2024 gaming controller deals in Australia

Fantech Shooter III WGP13S hall effect wireless gamepad
Fantech Shooter III WGP13S hall effect wireless gamepad: was AU$39 now AU$9 at Mwave

Save AU$30

Uh, AU$9 for a wireless gamepad that's compatible with PC and boasts drift-free Hall Effect thumbsticks is the very definition of a "buy now think later" scenario. The full picture first, though: MWave's shipping is AU$10.50 plus they charge a AU$2.95 "transit cover" fee, so the actual total is AU$22.67. That's still a great price for a wireless Hall Effect controller though. We've not reviewed this model, but user reviews suggest it's a good budget controller very much sans bells and whistles. Also available in black.

Early Black Friday 2024 gaming mouse deals in Australia

Glorious Model O gaming mouse
Glorious Model O gaming mouse: was AU$94.99 now AU$54 at Amazon AU

Save AU$40.99
Glorious is hardly a household name but this is a mouse we can recommend: In Katie's review it's described as "the lightest RGB mouse around", and it better be, with all those holes. The ambidextrous affair is "optimized for competitive gaming", and has a 1000hz polling rate. It was down to AU$54 during Prime Day, and may drop further for Black Friday, but for now this is a good discount if you're keen on this model.

When is Black Friday 2024 in Australia?

Black Friday 2024 is on Friday, November 29 this year and will effectively last through until Cyber Monday on December 2.

Though, in reality, Black Friday is now a month-long event running pretty much throughout the entirety of November.

Should you wait to buy until Black Friday?

There are always reasons to hold off on making a new purchase whenever you are thinking about making one. Whether it's the potential for a new generation of techie goodness on the horizon—either cutting prices on existing models or delivering tangible higher performance—or because there might be an imminent sale like Black Friday looming.

When picking out the early Black Friday PC gaming deals we take all of this into consideration, and where we think prices on something might significantly drop on the big day itself we simply won't recommend it. But all of the products here we either believe won't significantly drop much further in terms of their pricing, or are just good deals that we wouldn't hesitate recommending if you wanted to make a purchase today.

What should I avoid buying on Black Friday 2024?

Anything you don't need. It's distressingly easy to be duped into dropping cash on something just because there's a hefty discount attached to it… even though you have absolutely no use for it.

If you're considering making a purchase around Black Friday, have a plan of attack. That probably sounds needlessly aggressive, but you need to know what you actually want to buy first or you'll end up with no end of crap. Cheap crap, maybe, but crap nonetheless.

Do some research on the products you'd like to pick up in the sales (we offer detailed hardware buying guides), and maybe some alternatives in case those don't pop up. Set yourself a strict budget too.

Products like graphics cards and processors have obvious tiers (though the different companies work damned hard to make product names as confusing as possible), and SSDs have rated speeds, but for peripherals, it's tougher to tell from the specs whether they're worth the money. Checking for reviews, from such luminaries as ourselves, should guide you on your way.

Are there any Black Friday tips and tricks?

If you haven't already used it up during a credit card splurge around Amazon Prime Day, then you ought to take the opportunity to sign up for a free 30-day trial of Amazon Prime. That will get you early access to the Lightning Deals, and help you grab some of Jeff's best deals of the day. It will also net you free shipping on a host of products and speedy delivery too, and at the very worst it'll be handy when it comes to bagging some last-minute Christmas gifts for that aunt you always forget about.
