New PC games from 2023: last year's upcoming releases

That's it; 2023 has come and gone. It was an intense year of major new PC games nearly every month along with plenty of highs and lows for the industry itself. While we got to play more amazing games than in several years prior, it came with relentless layoffs for the people who make games.

Down below you'll find a refresher on tons of PC game launch dates from the year. Remind yourself what you missed that needs to stay on your backlog for next year or look back at the games you didn't even remember you played. We're heading into the new year with a list of new PC games in 2024, so catch up with new releases there.

While we might be closing out the year, we're in the age of game delays no matter what month it is. Even as we move into 2024, it'll be no surprise if some of the remaining games on the schedule get their release dates knocked back for some extra polish. If they're lucky, it'll just be one delay. Not all of them are lucky.

Still, while release dates are always tentative nowadays, 2023  shaped up to be a huge year—particularly for RPGs: June launched us into a frenzy of demonslaying in Diablo 4, Baldur's Gate 3 emerged from early access its August full release, and Starfield's sent us spaceward to kick off September.

Biggest January 2023 games

Persona 3 Portable | January 19
Another treasured Persona RPG arrives at last on PC. Gather your fellow teens, grab your Evoker (which is not at all a gun), and face the terror of the Dark Hour.

Forspoken | January 24
A Square Enix open-world RPG from a new studio of Final Fantasy veterans. As Frey Holland, displaced New Yorker and fledgling sorcerer, adventure across a fantasy world with the greatest magic of all: parkour.

Dead Space | January 27
The Motive remake of the much-loved space horror shooter from 2008. A faithful recreation: severing alien limbs with a plasma cutter remains gruesomely enjoyable and the physics puzzles and no-HUD approach of the original both remain.

Kerbal Space Program 2 | February 24 (Early Access)
Your favorite little green astronauts are back, and they've got their sights set on distant stars. Master new technologies to establish space colonies, orbital installations, and—eventually—achieve interstellar travel.

Destiny 2: Lightfall | February 28
Destiny tries cyberpunk on for size in its latest expansion. Master new Darkness abilities with Strand powers while exploring a futuristic city on Neptune's moons. But based on the name, keep your fingers crossed for our favorite big orb.

Resident Evil 4 | March 24
Welcome, stranger: Leon Kennedy's European Vacation gets a modern reimagining. Track the President's daughter to solve a bioweapon mystery, and relive Resident Evil's finest hour of spin kicks and amateur harpooning.

The Last of Us Part 1 | March 28
The remake of a landmark Sad Dad Simulator finally arrives on PC. With the power of prestige storytelling, survive a country's worth of third-person shooting in your trek across an America ravaged by fungal zombie apocalypse. You'll have to supply your own Pedro Pascal, though.

Minecraft Legends | April 18
Mojang and Blackbird Interactive have teamed up to create an action RTS game based on Minecraft lore. Go solo, co-op, or even PvP while directing armies of creepers, skeletons, and other new creatures.

Dead Island 2 | April 21
The long-in-the-works sequel to 2011's resort apocalypse is finally launching this spring. Deep Silver is bringing back zombie-slaying FPS action and apparently a bit more grim humor up its sleeve than the original.

Honkai: Star Rail | April 27
Genshin Impact's developers are headed to space with another gacha game, this time a turn-based sci-fi adventure. As with Genshin, expect elemental magic and lots of characters to optimize your party with.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor | April 28
It's dark days for lone Jedi Cal Kestis. Hunted by the Empire across known space, Cal's got a bigger bag of tricks to help him Jedi: Survive—new fighting styles, new friends, and a newfound talent for taming lizards all feature in this Star Wars sequel.

Diablo 4 | June 6

Mask of the Rose | June 8
Descend once more into the chthonic metropolis of Fallen London—and maybe find romance? In Failbetter's dating sim/murder mystery/census-taking simulator, meet a gothic undercity's worth of colorful characters: some cloaked, some tentacled. Some, assuredly both.

After twenty years, we're heading back to the favorite city of the Forgotten Realms. After an acclaimed early access run, The Baldur's Gate series gets its turn-based rebirth courtesy of the Divinity devs at Larian.

Blasphemous 2 | August 24
The sequel to the widely-celebrated Souls-like side scroller, featuring a new world of Gothic grotesquery. There's always work to be done for the Penitent One.

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon | August 25
Pack up your greatswords and break out the robots. It's finally happening: at long last, FromSoft is back in the mech business, and it's bringing all the lessons learned while achieving action RPG acclaim. Now we just have to see whether Souls fans have the patience for AC customization.

It hasn't been long since Cities: Skylines set the current standard for city builders, but it never hurts to cement your place on the throne. The sequel touts new levels of city simulation, promising unprecedented creativity in urban planning—at least until you have to figure out traffic, anyway.

Alan Wake 2 | October 27
After cementing their own combined cinematic universe in Control, Remedy is revisiting their wretched little man as they make their survival horror debut. Yeah, Alan's been trapped in a pocket dimension of psychological torment for ten years, but I'm sure it'll be fine.
