2018 in silly back page jokes
Thirteen attempts to be funny at deadline.
Christmas 2018: Return of the Obra Dinn
Phil: This one's really good. Simple concept, great visual and a couple of fun lines.
Samuel: Ah, this is fantastic. Best one of the year in my opinion. I only wish it was about us the staff, but maybe that's too in-jokey and '90s PCG. But top marks.
Pip: We tried making it about the staff but it was too much effort (ie, it was some low level effort). Plus it let me have a dig at people who play Anti-Mage badly. Win-win.
January 2019: Fallout 76
Phil: Andy wrote this, and it's nice, simple and to the point. Fake Fallout vaults are a rich vein for panic-written last minute jokes.
Samuel: Yet more words. So much reading, Phil. Why are you doing this to me? You do get your money's worth with Phil Savage-edited All Overs, I'll give you that.
Phil: I'll take a wall of text over whatever the hell this is.
Samuel: A kick in the balls to see out 2018. How apt.

Phil has been writing for PC Gamer for nearly a decade, starting out as a freelance writer covering everything from free games to MMOs. He eventually joined full-time as a news writer, before moving to the magazine to review immersive sims, RPGs and Hitman games. Now he leads PC Gamer's UK team, but still sometimes finds the time to write about his ongoing obsessions with Destiny 2, GTA Online and Apex Legends. When he's not levelling up battle passes, he's checking out the latest tactics game or dipping back into Guild Wars 2. He's largely responsible for the whole Tub Geralt thing, but still isn't sorry.
